“Completion of project implementation Access to WASH services for the Area C vulnerable and underserved Communities

Economic and Social Development Center of Palestine(ESDC), in partnership with Oxfam, is completing the implementation of a project to improve access to water, sanitation and hygiene services for vulnerable communities in Area “C”, funded by the Humanitarian Fund for the Occupied Palestinian territory, in coordination with the Palestinian Water Authority and in partnership with the municipality of Hebron.
The project was implemented in the Khalat Al-Qubba area of Hebron municipality and this area is classified C, as the area suffered before the implementation of the project from the lack of water and sewage networks serving.
The project activities included the construction of a sewage network with a length of 1 km, the construction of a drinking water network with a length of 1.4 km and these networks were connected with the network of the municipality of Hebron, and the streets in the project area with a length of 1.5 km were paved
One of the most prominent results of the project was the access of water services to all residents while ensuring adequate and fair access. This led to improving the well-being of families in the khilat Al-Qubba area, and this was represented in reducing the cost of purchasing water by an average of NIS 10 / M3. The project also worked to provide clean water to the population to reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases.
On the other hand, the project provided sanitation services to all residents in the area, which led to eliminating the maintenance costs of absorption pits, reducing health care expenses, improving community health, and this also reflected positively on social welfare and improving livelihoods, especially for women, who are often responsible for collecting water.
The number of direct beneficiaries of the project reached 2000 people representing 400 families and the number of indirect beneficiaries of the project is more than 200 people.
