Support for Olive Farmers: Effective Steps to Face the Challenges of War
In light of the current challenging circumstances and the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip, the Economic and Social Development Center of Palestinian (ESDC) has implemented an urgent intervention to support the resilience of farmers in the Al-Zawayda area of the Middle Governorate. This support was provided through distribution of essential agricultural inputs that play a vital role in facilitating the olive harvesting process, one of the most significant agricultural seasons in Palestine. These inputs included wooden ladders, plastic gallon, and olive rake. A total of 53 farmers were benefited from this intervention, which directly addresses the urgent needs of the most affected groups.
This activity is part of the “Enhancing Resilience and Improving Economic Opportunities for Marginalized Groups and Communities in Gaza and the Jordan Valley” project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in partnership with Oxfam. The project aims to address the devastating impact the war has had on the agricultural sector, as farmers face major damage to agricultural infrastructure and a lack of resources needed to keep working their lands.
This emergency intervention is a step within broader efforts to support Palestinian farmers, who are facing not only severe economic challenges but also harsh conditions due to the repeated military escalations. ESDC aims to strengthen their resilience, help them remain on their land, and ensure the continuity of agricultural production, which serves as a lifeline for many Palestinian families struggling to survive in the face of these ongoing crises.
